Lluis Mather

Lluis Mather is an award-winning UK instrumentalist and composer, and a Henri SELMER Paris performing artist. He has won the Dave Holland Award, was recipient of a Yamaha Scholarship, is one of three 2013/14 Jerwood Fellows “expected to make a significant contribution to British Jazzâ€, a first class graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire (course prize for outstanding achievement 2010) and most recently completed an MPhil at University of Cambridge. He has performed at Cheltenham, Harmonic, Manchester, London, amongst other jazz festivals with his quintet featuring Julian Siegel, and also with his nonet, commissioned by THSH Birmingham. Lluis has toured and recorded with the Hans Koller Ensemble led by composer Mike Gibbs, performing a residency at London’s Vortex and recording ‘Mike Gibbs 12 play Gil Evans’. Lluis teaches for the Junior Department of the Birmingham Conservatoire, and is currently a sideman with the Mike Fletcher Big Band, Dave Grey’s Hansu Tori, and the Birmingham Jazz Orchestra. In 2008 he toured with the C.UK big band to Toronto's IAJE conference alongside Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone. Lluis plays a Selmer Paris B-flat Privilege Bass Clarinet and Mk VII Alto Saxophone, and uses a Fusion Premium Alto Saxophone case.
