Jez Wiles

Jez Wiles is a percussionist living and working in London. He plays a wide variety of music and instruments that have led him to roles as a performer, workshop leader and teacher. Jez has performed with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, orchestra of the Royal Opera House, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and English National Opera; on musicals in London including The Lion King, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Hair, The Lord of The Rings, The Bodyguard, Stephen Ward, The Scottsboro Boys, In The Heights, Beautiful, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Elf, and Dr Faustus at The Globe Theatre; toured the US with Imogen Heap, Japan with the LSO and the UK with Tim Minchin and The Heritage Orchestra; played on TV with Gareth Malone, on film and TV such as Beyond The Sea, Pan, Dads Army, Downton Abbey, Antman and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.; on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury with Tony Christie; recorded on albums with Foy Vance, Brian Eno, Leo Abrahams, ABC, Ramshackle Crow, Rosabella Gregory and Daniel Mulhern; played live with Lisa Stansfield, Goldie, The Leisure Society, Gareth Lockrane‘s Big Band, Andrew Poppy’s Sustaining Ensemble, Evelyn Nallen’s Zero Gravity, John Etheridge‘s Zappatistas and Peter Weigold‘s Notes Inégales and he’s been a member and more recently a bateria director of Paraiso School of Samba in London since it began in 2002. Teaching Jez has worked with Orchestra education departments such as LSO Discovery and ENO Baylis, devised creative composition workshops, frameworks and written music in partnership with schools, taught and directed samba groups on the street and in schools, and given classes at Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Trinity Laban and The Academy of Contemporary Music. He currently teaches at London College of Music, Paraiso School of Samba, directs a joint carnival group in Sloane Square between two primary schools and is a workshop leader with Create. 2015 saw ‘The Big Shed’ studio built with Chris Wharton at home (christened by Wiles junior), and the first project completed in early 2016 was a tuned percussion loop pack for Samplephonics. © 2017 Jez Wiles | Site by RAFFWORK
