One of the most exciting musicians of today, multi award-winning alto-saxophonist, MC and composer Soweto Kinch delivers his exhilarating, hard hitting jazz, racing freestyle lyrics and hip hop. He will be performing music from his latest album "The Black Peril" and newly commissioned work 'White Juju" (unreleased).
The Black Peril
A dynamic new work by Soweto Kinch, inspired by the sounds of ragtime, proto-jazz, West Indian folk music and the classical works of black composers of the period. It revisits a time of momentous social change, also exploring connecting strands to modern forms of dance music including hip hop and trap. Breathing new life into historic and often neglected musical forms, the performance both reaches forward and into the past for inspiration.
White Juju
Juju is an artistic response to a year of pandemic, racial animus and culture wars. Inspired by events as diverse as the Covid-19, BLM protests and the toppling of racist statues. The music melds Kinch’s distinct approach to Jazz and Hip Hop with Classical music: drawing broad inspiration from European folklore, the African Diaspora and toxic national myths creating a uniquely contemporary tone poem.
